It contains many tiny air bubbles which makes it very porous. Pumice is an excellent soil conditioner for all plants and ideal for cacti, succulents and plants that require greater drainage and porosity. The porosity also allows microbial life to thrive while maintaining soil structure better than many other conditioners. Pumice provides a neutral pH as well as a variety of trace materials. Pumice is an effective natural, physical barrier against fungus gnats when used as a surface barrier. This is due to the fine abrasive granules, which prevent the gnats entering or exiting the media, therefore breaking the life-cycle.
